Cinematic Titanic: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

A significant step down from the MST3k version
I've long enjoyed the Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3k) riffing of the deliberately campy "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" and was very excited to see a reimagining of the riffing by the MST3k veterans in Cinematic Titanic.

Admirably, Cinematic Titanic avoided using any of the jokes, or, for that matter, any close derivatives of the jokes used in the original MST3k production. Unfortunately, the result is a far less pleasing humorous take on the venerable kids film. The humor is, in places, more crude and throughout is less inspired. There are some genuinely hilarious new jokes in this production, but not nearly enough to be able to recommend the Cinematic Titanic production.

To those wishing to experience Cinematic Titanic at its best I can recommend the DVDs of their live shows.

Cinematic Titanic, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. #5
Cinematic Titanic, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, (#5)
I'm thrilled to be the one who gets to offer the first rating on this movie!
Some may not know, Cinematic Titanic is an off-shoot of MST3k or Mystery Science Theater 3000.
This cast consists of Joel Hodgson (creator of both), Trace Beaulieu (a.k.a. 'Crow', J. Elvis Weinstein (who was 1st Tom Servo and created 'Cinematic's theme song) and Mary Jo Pehl. And you should know - that although MST3k did 'riff' this movie, Cinematic Titanic's riffing is all different on this one.
The riffs (funny-comments between movie dialog) are suburb!! - The guys (and gal) don't miss a beat.
I have watched it twice so far - and the 2nd time - I caught things I missed the first time.
Amazing how unfazed the two kids are in this movie - about having been abducted my Martians.
A great movie to riff on. As noted - this is disc number 5 of the Cinematic releases
(The Oozing Skull was the first one).
One...

Brilliant Comedy
If you are a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (especially the era when Joel hosted the show), and Rifftrax, you will enjoy this. It's a crying shame that Cinematic Titanic has packed it in. Get this before it becomes a collector's item!
